An underwater nude swimmer powers through clear blue waters. This photograph is dominated by tones of blue and pink. She swims away from the viewer, towards the light in the upper right corner. Dark purple circles surround her, contrasting with the bright highlights on her form. Her dark, thick hair floats weightlessly behind her. Tiny bubbles dance around the piece, congregating in the upper right quarter.

Everything, from the water to the woman’s form, has a smooth, painterly quality, making the piece dreamlike. The swimmer’s face is not visible, but her body language speaks volumes. Her legs work hard to propel her body towards the light, while her arms are spread wide. Her gaze is directed forward. She is transitioning from the water’s cerulean depths to the effervescent light. Underwater, light holds an unearthly, radiant quality.

As the swimmer transitions, so does the water. Water is constantly moving and changing. Liquid is easily influenced by light and the human form; creating dazzling effects. The tiny bubbles have a magical quality. Water is also an inhospitable environment. This dichotomy  makes a body in water a fascinating combination.
