A voluptuous swimmer powers through the water, little bubbles trailing her silhouette. She floats as if bareskin on a couch of tiny balloons. Her unencumbered curves glow from the light above. An exhilarating freestyle in the altogether. Her nudity is not immediately apparent and details of her body are mostly cloaked in darkness. Even under close inspection, there may be lingering ambiguity about her attire or lack of it. This is the kind of artwork my mother could hang in her living room without worry. I am fascinated by the refraction of light in this image. I first became interested in swimming pool images when seeing the paintings of artist David Hockney. He represented the refraction of light as a repeated pattern of shapes. I appreciate pool images that evoke a similar graphical feeling.
