Two nudes lay poolside in classic nude photography that is reminiscent of vintage advertising. The colors evoke memories of magazine pages, although the imagery is decidedly provocative. One woman lifts her nude body out of the water at the edge of the pool. The other reclines on the edge, her head out of view, her buttocks and legs on display.

The color pallete recalls classic nude photography in that it only approximates reality. An array of beautiful but unrealistic colors challenge the distinction photography as representing our world or creating a new one.

The seemingly unready moment of capture appears unrehearsed, as if by chance. One subject looks directly at us, while the other’s face is completely obscured. However, the disjointed halves fit together in the mind, the top of one completes the lower half of the other.

There is something oddly satisfying about this seemingly accidental scene. The nostalgic colors are alive with pleasure. The appeal of the image goes beyond a presentation of shapely forms near refreshing water.

The tones of skin are remarkably uniform, and the dark shades of the image never achieve pure black. The foliage is muted greens, casting purplish shadows. The water glows in vibrant blue. The bricks and pebbles that frame the center are muted in both brightness and coloration.

A single potted plant sits in the background. A few dead, dry leaves hang from the edge of the pot. The plant’s role is to remind us to imagine paradise beyond the bounds of luxury and perfection.

This classic nude photography is ready to frame and hang on your wall. It is a provocative statement piece that is sure to be the center of conversation.
