A back view of a statuesque nude woman is central to this fine art nude color photograph of the New York City skyline. Blush pink verticals dominate this image in three scales: the buildings, the model’s legs, and her high heeled shoes. The blue negative space of the sky pierces downward in pencil-thin slivers between the buildings.
A golden-toned nude figure stands fifteen floors up, half a mile from the United Nations in Midtown Manhattan. The length of her hair caresses her left side to her waist. Prominent are three buildings along Second Avenue in New York City’s diplomatic district. At left are the distinctive points atop 933 2nd Ave, 919 2nd Ave is at center, and the forty-nine-story Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza is on the right.
The overall image is balanced but contains dynamic elements. The long verticals of the buildings, the snaking body, and strong lines all guide the viewer’s eyes. The buildings present strong verticals, converging through perspective. The parallel lines of the decking, also converging through perspective, in a contrasting pattern. The railing and hedge divide these two regions. All of these elements surround the figure, which stands out in bright contrast.
This image presents a touch of the natural world, green leaves, in the middle of a dense city. The statuesque nude woman in a serpentine stance is the only other organic element. These two features stand in contrast to the straight lines that surround them.
Many people around the world know New York and have a personal connection to the metropolis. Whenever I visit Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, the art and culture of the city inspired me. Although I have visited a dozen times before this image is from my first ever photo project in New York
With an overall image height of 36 inches in height, the statuesque nude woman is 17 inches from head to toe.
